Committed to helping young people feel hopeful for their futures and happier in themselves
About me
My name is Laura and I have worked as an Occupational Therapist for over 25 years. I worked in the NHS for over 20 years and then moved across to Private care. I have worked in a number of mental health areas during my career but have always loved working with younger people. I have worked with young people who are experiencing a range of mental health challenges including psychosis, mood related diagnoses, anxiety and neurodiverse diagnoses. I have seen first hand the impact this has on their family lives, relationships, education, interests and their overall self esteem and view of themselves. I realise the difficulty some young people may have in talking about their mental health and trusting new people to help them. I have worked with a number of young people for weeks and months to build up engagement before true therapy can happen. I have the patience and understanding for this if it is needed.
I currently work at Reading college as their main OT supporting students with a range of difficulties which impact their learning in some way, across the whole college. I also carry out autism diagnostic assessments privately.
As well as the young people themselves, I can also work with schools, employers, parents/carers and families as a whole. I will help understand each young person and learn about what each of their goals are for us to work on together.
I cover the areas of Berkshire and surrounding counties but can discuss travelling further if needed.
